Leaving The Gipper Behind

I usually don’t give up anything for Lent but this year I made an exception. Many of my readers, lately, have complained that I was too negative on Donald Trump - some even accused me of being “unhinged”. To give everyone a respite, I decided to give up criticizing the president for Lent - a much tougher task than I realized. Nevertheless, the self-imposed censorship has turned out to be extremely positive. The fighting with my readers has virtually disappeared. It has forced me to broaden my horizons and that has led me to joining the #YangGang (I will be writing more on this subject). It has also forced me to find positive aspects of the Trump presidency besides saving the country from the Hillary Clinton. One such aspect is ending the Reagan Era in Republican politics.

Ben Sasse’s "Born-Alive" Political Stunt

If Senator Sasse was really interested in saving the lives of viable babies, he would not have introduced such a narrow bill. He would have introduced legislation that required the delivery of a fetus once it reaches viability. If fetus is able to live outside the womb (albeit with medical assistance), the argument that a woman has the right to control her body is moot. The pro-choice argument “her body, her choice” no longer applies since her body is no longer needed. Instead, Sasse opted for virtual signaling and, unfortunately, pro-lifers followed his lead and basked in perceived moral superiority while denouncing the “evil baby killing pro-aborts” who opposed the bill.

Will The Swamp Ever Be Drained?

Whether Donald Trump will face impeachment or be allowed to hobble along until the end of his term, also doesn’t matter. The Mueller investigation has successfully blocked the populist agenda he ran on. It has forced Trump into becoming another conventional Republican president bragging about tax cuts, military spending and Wall Street getting richer. The bold talk about draining the swamp and returning power to the people has been replaced with advocating for regime change in Venezuela. The status quo has re-established its firm grip on Washington while Trump is busily trying to fool his supporters into believing that bollard fencing paid by our taxes is the same as a concrete wall paid by Mexico.

Trump's Losing Strategy

In other words, for Trump to have a successful presidency he needed to cast aside the populists, nationalists or the very voters that provided his margin of victory. Generally, presidents seeking re-election work to expand their base, not contract it or create a completely different coalition, especially when the new coalition requires winning voters that have consistently shunned the GOP. Apparently, Trump bought into the strategy suggested by Scaramucci - no doubt with the help of Princess Ivanka. A few days after the interview was aired, Steve Bannon left the White House and the “forgotten man” was forgotten again.

Amnesty Don Never Wanted A Wall - Part II

My prediction is that in three weeks, the group will recommend a few physical barriers (steel slats) and a whole lot of drones, sensors and other technology that can be easily switched off by the next Democrat or Bush-like Republican administration. Trump will pounce on the recommendations and tell his voters that they are an improvement over his original wall - after all, the experts have spoken! The Trump communication team will flood the airways and declare a great victory for the American people and praise the president for being a problem solver who brought Washington together. The Trump cultists will feel vindicated while the patriots will be searching for a new leader for the MAGA movement.

Do Not Let Conservative Inc. Slither Away From the Covington Controversy

The climb down is not as fast as the initial burst of faux outrage. As soon as the video that sparked the Covington controversy surfaced, the usual suspects who see bigotry lurking in the soul of every Trump supporter were quick to denounce and foment a mob against the Catholic students while consoling Mr. Nathan Phillips, the alleged victim of another act of white supremacy. Thanks to Twitter personalities like Mike Cernovich, the initial media reports were proven to be more fake news and retractions, social media deletions and apologies began.

Everything I Hate Is White Supremacy

For quite sometime there has been a meme circulating social media stating “Everyone I Hate Is Hitler” . Quite amusing and quite accurate. What used to be a devastating attack on a political opponent, or a surefire way to shut down any debate, it is now a punchline. Since the potency of invoking Hitler’s name has waned, a new lexicon had to be deployed - thus the term “white supremacy” became ubiquitous. Any action, policy or political movement the Left doesn’t like is now labeled “white supremacy”. The latest example of “white supremacy” is inquiring about citizenship status in the upcoming 2020 census.
