Ted Cruz’s Incompetence Will Cost The Texas GOP Dearly

The speed with which the Beto Bubble burst is an indictment of the Ted Cruz re-election campaign. Beto is an empty suit. He was always an empty suit and Cruz should have been able to dispense with him in short order. Instead, Cruz spent most of the campaign AWOL while Beto was covering the state of Texas with iconic campaign signs. When Ted finally showed up it was with the lame slogan “Tough As Texas” and no clear message as to why he deserved re-election. During a telephone conference call with Republican voters I attended, Cruz was asked to list his accomplishments while in office. He responded by mentioning that he passed legislation awarding the Purple Heart to the victims of the Fort Hood terrorist attack and obtained federal disaster aid for areas ravaged by hurricane Harvey. The Great Tea Party Hope of Texas had nothing to show as far as rolling back Obamacare, tackling illegal immigration or reining in the federal government.

Theresa May's Stunning Defeat

As an avid follower of British politics, I predicted that the United Kingdom would vote to leave the European Union nearly two years before the referendum was held. What I did not foresee was the extent the ruling class would work to sabotage the referendum result. But I should be forgiven for my misjudgment. Three years ago I still believed that democracy was a cherished value in the West. I still believed that casting a vote mattered.

America's Isolation: Inevitable But Necessary

“It would also be mistaken to blame Trump for America's current isolation, as the pundit class has done ever since the acrimonious conclusion of the recent G-7 meeting. The president is simply carrying out what Americans have voted for for the last two decades. In 2000, George W. Bush promised a more "humble" foreign policy, and ran on ending America's role as the world's policeman. The terrorist attack on 9/11 caused Americans to back a more interventionist foreign policy, but it was a temporary reprieve. In 2008, Barack Obama was able to defeat the Clinton machine and war hero John McCain by promising to bring the troops home and renegotiate NAFTA. Eight years later, and again the candidate who pledged to end free trade and military interventions prevailed over candidates who defended the status quo. If not Trump, someone else with the same foreign policy and trade views would have come along eventually. Washington cannot ignore the will of voters for eternity.”

Prince Harry Will Complete Princess Diana's Mission To Destroy The Monarchy

Meghan Markle is not royal family material by any stretch of the imagination, and it has nothing to do with her being biracial. Actually, her biracial background has been used effectively to silence any criticism – only racists who do not wish to modernize the monarchy could object to such a brilliant match!  In reality, Meghan could be fully black or white and she still would be unsuitable. Also, it has nothing to do with the fact that she is a commoner. No blue blood flows through Catherine Middleton, but her family runs among the highest circles of British society, and both Kate and her sister Pippa were groomed to be the wives of aristocrats or upper class men.  Meghan is not British, and thus no appeal can be made to the sentiment that any British girl can grow up to be a princess.  She is unsuitable because she is a divorced, older, C-list actress with a dysfunctional family who has already provided many cringe-worthy moments for the monarchy, and is sure to provide more in the future. Her father’s last-minute health scare was probably planned to cover for the fact that he was never invited to the wedding --along with the rest of the family except for her mother – who is, frankly, its only presentable member.

Trump Is Lazy

"How can you say he's lazy? Look how much he has achieved in just one year," some will say. Well, nothing much on immigration -- that’s for sure. Tax cuts, deregulation, and conservative judges are all wins that any other Republican would have delivered. What we get with Trump is a lot of smoke and mirrors, lots of declarations of “winning” -- and then when the smoke clears, nothing much has changed. The latest example of Trump's laziness concerns the caravan of illegal immigrants making its way from Central America to the United States. Just a couple of weeks ago, the Trump cultists were all over social media declaring a “win” for the president, because the caravan had apparently been disbanded -- only to learn they have actually reached the Mexico-USA border and are climbing over the existing fence. Heck, the Trump cultists have already declared that peace is reigning over the Korean peninsula – let’s hope we don’t find out the hard way that it was more smoke by having a nuclear weapon land on our shores.

My Journey From Immigration Dove To Immigration Hawk

My attitude towards illegal immigration began to change three years ago when I read a story about a Dreamer who unfurled a Mexican flag at her graduation ceremony at the University of California – San Diego. The sheer stupidity and arrogance of the act stunned me. America was kind to let her stay, and had given her opportunities she would have never had if her family had stayed in Mexico -- and yet she chose to wave the flag of the country that gave her nothing. At the time, I was in contact with immigration reform activists who, to my dismay, cheered her self-defeating stunt. I warned them that such in-your-face tactics and a sense of entitlement was only going to backfire and turn Americans against the Dreamers. Their response was to hurl insults and hit the block button on Facebook.

Leave Trump Behind And MAGA On

In the aftermath of a complete betrayal, it is very hard to focus on any silver linings. And 'betrayed' is just the word for how many Trump supporters feel after the second bombing of Syria. It's just the latest of a string of policy reversals: he's open to amnesty and gun control, there's no wall, he's funding Planned Parenthood, and he's even contemplating rejoining TPP. Trump's core supporters are asking themselves whether he is compromised, simply not up to the job of changing Washington, or simply lied to get elected. In the end, it doesn’t matter. Trump is a lost cause. Trying to decipher his latest move or tweet is now a waste of time. Defending him against Mueller, the Deep State, or the Mean Media is just a waste of energy that could be better used to advance the MAGA agenda. So I say: forget Trump. It's time to look for our silver linings and focus on the future.

The Case for Italy Leaving NATO

Sarkozy's violation of Italian air space is emblematic  of Italy’s position within NATO.  Although blessed with a strategic location in the middle of the Mediterranean, Italy has never been little more than a junior partner whose sovereign rights can be trampled upon and national interests can be ignored.  As long as the Soviet Union was around one could make the argument that keeping Italy from falling into communist hands trumped all other considerations, but the Soviet empire and Warsaw Pact are long gone. What is the rationale for Italy to stay in NATO?  I see none.
